Low Self-Esteem Therapy

Do you constantly doubt yourself, worry you’re not good enough, or find it hard to believe in your own worth? Low self-esteem can quietly shape how we experience life, our relationships, and even how we treat ourselves. But the way you see yourself can change—with support and space to explore what's underneath those beliefs.

I’m Katy, a BACP Accredited therapist offering low self-esteem therapy in Farnham and online. I provide a calm, compassionate space where we can explore the roots of your self-doubt, build self-awareness, and begin the work of reconnecting with your sense of confidence and self-worth.

What is low self-esteem therapy?

Low self-esteem therapy helps you understand where negative beliefs about yourself come from—and how to begin loosening their hold on your life. These beliefs often develop over time, shaped by early experiences, relationships, school, work, or social pressures. They may show up as a quiet inner critic or a loud voice telling you that you’re not smart enough, attractive enough, capable enough… just not enough.

Therapy isn’t about pretending to be confident or “fixing” yourself. It’s about creating space to gently explore the way you speak to yourself, the expectations you carry, and the patterns you’ve learned over time.

With the right support, it’s possible to build a more compassionate, steady relationship with yourself.

Signs of low self-esteem

Low self-esteem can show up in many different ways. You might:

  • Constantly compare yourself to others
  • Find it hard to accept compliments or believe praise
  • Struggle with perfectionism or fear of failure
  • Feel anxious in social situations or fear being judged
  • Apologise often or find it hard to say no
  • Avoid new opportunities because you doubt your abilities
  • Feel like you’re “not good enough” no matter what you do

These thoughts and feelings can be exhausting. Therapy offers a chance to slow down and explore them without judgement.

How therapy can help

In low self-esteem therapy, we work together to understand the roots of your self-image and how it’s been shaped over time. We’ll also explore how these beliefs affect your current life—your relationships, your work, and the way you treat yourself day to day.

As a person-centred therapist, I won’t give you affirmations or tell you to just “think positively.” I’ll offer empathy, curiosity, and a safe space where you can explore your experiences at your own pace.

Therapy can help you:

  • Recognise and challenge your inner critic
  • Understand the experiences that shaped your self-esteem
  • Develop self-compassion and more balanced self-talk
  • Build confidence and resilience in the face of challenges
  • Learn to set boundaries and honour your needs
  • Begin to feel more at ease being fully yourself

This is gentle work—but it can be life-changing.

It’s something you learned, and it can be unlearned too—with time, support, and kindness. Therapy won’t give you instant confidence—but it can help you rebuild trust in yourself, step by step.
