Bereavement therapy

Grief can feel overwhelming, confusing, and isolating. Whether your loss is recent or happened some time ago, bereavement can shake the foundations of life as you knew it. You might feel sadness, anger, numbness—or all of these at once. Whatever your experience, you don’t have to face it alone.

I’m Katy, a BACP Accredited therapist offering bereavement therapy in Farnham and online. I provide a gentle, supportive space where you can begin to process your grief at your own pace—without pressure, judgment, or expectation.

What is bereavement therapy?

Bereavement therapy is a safe space to explore your feelings of loss and everything that comes with them. It’s not about “moving on” or following a set timeline for grief. It’s about helping you understand and live with your loss in a way that feels manageable, meaningful, and unique to you.

Grief doesn’t follow a neat path - and it doesn’t only come with the death of a loved one. You might be grieving the loss of a partner, family member, friend, pet, or even a life you imagined. You may also be feeling the pain of ambiguous loss—like losing contact with someone through dementia, estrangement, or separation.

Bereavement therapy gives you space to talk, remember, cry, rage, reflect - or simply sit with the silence.

Common experiences in grief

Everyone grieves in their own way, but you may be experiencing:

  • Intense sadness or longing
  • Numbness or feeling emotionally shut down
  • Guilt, regret, or things left unsaid
  • Anger or frustration
  • Difficulty sleeping, eating, or focusing
  • Anxiety or fear about the future
  • Feeling isolated or that others have moved on
  • Physical symptoms like fatigue, pain, or tension

You might feel overwhelmed one moment and “fine” the next. Grief isn’t linear—and however it shows up for you, it’s welcome in therapy.

How bereavement therapy can help

When you’re grieving, it can be difficult to talk to friends or family - especially if they’re grieving too, or if you feel pressure to be “strong” or “move on.” Therapy offers a space that’s just for you. A place where you don’t have to hold anything back.

As a person-centred therapist, I won’t try to tell you how you should be feeling or what stage of grief you should be in. I’ll meet you where you are - with empathy, patience, and gentle support.

Bereavement therapy can help you:

  • Process the emotions that come with grief
  • Talk about your loved one and your memories
  • Explore changes in your identity, routine, or relationships
  • Learn how to live alongside your loss
  • Begin to reconnect with meaning, purpose, or hope when you’re ready

There’s no rush and no right way to grieve. Therapy is here to support you through it, however it looks.

You don’t have to carry this alone

Grief changes us. It can leave us feeling lost, disconnected, or unsure how to keep going. But you don’t have to carry your loss in silence. In bereavement therapy, there’s space for your story, your pain, your love, and your memories.

If you’re ready to take the first step, or just want to talk through what support might look like, I’d be honoured to hear from you.
